On January 4, we mark the anniversary of the passing of Alireza Pahlavi, the youngest son of the late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and Empress Farah Diba. Alireza’s life was deeply intertwined with the tumultuous history, and his untimely death in 2011 remains a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by those exiled from their homeland. Born on April 28, 1966, in Tehran, Alireza Pahlavi was raised in the opulent courts of during the reign of his father. However, the Revolution of 1979 forced the Pahlavi family into exile, drastically altering the trajectory of his life. January 3rd marks the fourteenth anniversary of the tragic passing of HRH Ali Reza Pahlavi. In 3 January 2011, after a period of struggling with depression, Prince Alireza tragically died by suicide at his home in Boston, Massachusetts, leaving behind a legacy marked by both intellectual pursuits and the deep personal and familial impact of political upheaval. Prince Alireza (28 April 1966 – 4 January 2011) was the second son of HIM Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah and HIM Empress Farah. Born in Tehran, Ali Reza grew up as part of the Pahlavi royal family during his father’s reign, which ended with the disastrous Islamist-Marxist Revolution in 1979. Following the monarchy’s fall, the family left and lived in exile, primarily in the United States.
