British decorator Michael Szell

[custom_adv]
Szell was famously asked to decorate the Throne Room at Windsor Castle, proving his royal and theatrical credentials. A central aspect of the coronation, as the crowning itself takes place in the crossing of Westminster Abbey, a space known as the coronation theatre. And in 1953 the Abbey was bedecked with yards of ‘Queensway’, a specially designed damask incorporating the floral emblems of the United Kingdom by fabric house Warner. This Christopher Farr design, however, speaks to a softer side in Szell’s work and indeed of royal flora.
