The Amir Kabir Power Plant located near the dam produces renewable energy, contributing to the region’s power grid and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The best time to visit is late spring to early autumn when the weather is mild and the landscape is lush. Early mornings offer the most peaceful views and clear reflections on the lake. Always respect the environment — swimming is prohibited in certain areas for safety reasons, and littering is strictly discouraged.
The Amir Kabir (Karaj) Dam represents one of earliest large-scale hydroengineering successes. Built by a consortium and international engineers, it was designed using rock-fill and concrete technology, which was highly advanced for its time. The dam’s location was carefully chosen after geological surveys determined that the narrow valley of the Karaj River provided a naturally strong foundation. Its elegant curvature and robust structure not only control the river’s flow but also create a deep, scenic reservoir that stretches several kilometers into the mountains.
