Visiting Karaj Dam (Amir Kabir Dam) is both easy and rewarding, especially for travelers based in Tehran or Karaj. The journey itself is part of the experience — winding mountain roads, crisp air, and breathtaking scenery await every visitor. Take the Tehran–Karaj Expressway (Freeway 2), then follow the Karaj–Chalous Road (Road 59) north. The dam lies about 25 km north of Karaj and approximately 63 km from central Tehran. From late April to early November, when the weather is mild, and the roads are clear of snow. Public transport options include minibuses and shared taxis heading toward Chalous, which often stop near the dam entrance.
However, for flexibility and photo opportunities, a private car or guided tour is recommended.
