Karaj Dam

Visitors can enjoy boat rides, rent pedal boats, or even try fishing in permitted areas. Trout and carp are the most common catches. Fishing permits can be arranged through local authorities or guesthouses. Several trails around the dam lead to small lookout points and shaded areas. Many families bring picnic baskets and spend the day relaxing near the water. Remember to pack out all waste to help preserve the environment. Small roadside cafes and restaurants overlook the dam, serving Iranian tea, kebabs, and local snacks.

On weekends, these places buzz with life as travelers stop for rest before continuing toward Chalous or Namak Abrud. Though camping directly beside the dam is restricted, there are eco-lodges, mountain inns, and campgrounds nearby, especially along the Karaj–Chalous road. In summer, many travelers set up tents in designated forested areas under the clear mountain sky.
