Over the years, Safia Farkash became associated with substantial wealth, much of it linked to the broader Gaddafi family’s business network. Reports by international media and investigators suggested that she held interests in real estate, financial investments, and companies both inside Libya and abroad, often through intermediaries or offshore structures.
These assets drew intense scrutiny after 2011, when international sanctions targeted members of the former regime and their relatives. While she was frequently labeled a powerful business figure, much of her financial activity remained opaque, reinforcing her reputation as a discreet but influential operator. During the Libyan uprising in 2011, Safia Farkash stood firmly by her husband and family as the regime collapsed. As fighting intensified, she fled Libya with several of her children, eventually seeking refuge in neighboring countries.
