There have been attempts to launch a similar video-on-demand service in the past, such as DirecTV in 2011, but the objection has long been that such a service will simply hasten the industry’s demise. For supporters like Peter Jackson and J.J. Abrams, Screening Room seems to offer convenience and flexibility while at the same time feeding the industry as a whole with a cut of the profits.
