Jafari’s later recollections reflected the perspective of a committed monarchist rather than that of an impartial observer. His testimony is therefore valuable not necessarily because it resolves every historical question, but because it reveals how one important participant understood the political divisions of his generation.
The 1979 Revolution transformed Jafari’s world. The monarchy he had supported for decades was overthrown, and the Pahlavi political system collapsed. Like many prominent supporters of the former regime, Jafari left Iran. He eventually settled in the United States, where he lived during the final decades of his life.
