From Entrepreneur to Prime Minister

Bennett entered politics in the mid-2000s and initially worked as Chief of Staff to Benjamin Netanyahu, who was then the leader of the opposition. Although the two would later become political rivals, Bennett gained valuable experience and visibility during this period. He subsequently became involved in right-wing and religious Zionist politics, eventually leading the Jewish Home party.

Over the years, Bennett held several important ministerial positions in Israeli governments. He served as Minister of Economy, Minister of Education, and Minister of Defense. During his tenure as Education Minister, he promoted initiatives aimed at strengthening science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. As Defense Minister, he advocated for a firm security policy and emphasized Israel’s preparedness against regional threats.

In 2021, after a prolonged period of political instability and multiple inconclusive elections, Bennett achieved one of the most surprising political accomplishments in Israeli history. Despite leading a relatively small party, he succeeded in forming a broad coalition government alongside Yair Lapid. The coalition included parties from the right, center, left, and, for the first time in Israeli history, an independent Arab party. Bennett became Prime Minister under a rotation agreement that would later transfer leadership to Lapid.
