When Kattan was young, her parents moved to Tennessee. While she lived in Tennessee, she went by the name “Heidi” because all of the kids that she went to school with thought Huda was a very odd name. The family had later moved to Massachusetts where Huda said she finally felt like she could be herself. In an interview with Vogue, Huda said: “I wanted to go by Huda but people thought it was so weird. But when we moved to Massachusetts, people were like, ‘That’s such a cool name!’ They would even tell me, ‘You’re from Iraq; wow, that’s so cool.”
