A college degree isn’t necessary to become a professional dancer, but one is usually required for those who want to become dance teachers or choreographers. Many dancers, especially those who want a career in theater, also choose to grow their acting and singing skills, as well. Dance is a performing art form consisting of sequences of movement, either improvised or purposefully selected. This movement has aesthetic and often symbolic value. Dance can be categorized and described by its choreography, by its repertoire of movements, or by its historical period or place of origin.
