A chuppah is a canopy supported by four poles creating an open-sided structure that symbolizes the new home of the bride and groom. The top is a beautiful square cloth, usually made of silk or velvet but it can also be a tallit, a Jewish prayer shawl. A chuppah can be fairly simple, or garlanded with flowers.
