Relations between Pahlavi and King Hussein

This mutual concern drove and Jordan into deeper cooperation, particularly through intelligence coordination. Jordan was deeply involved in the Palestinian issue, especially after 1948 and 1967. The Shah, while supportive of Palestinian rights publicly, took a more pragmatic stance due to his covert cooperation with Israel. Jordan’s stability was crucial for regional balance. Radical Palestinian factions threatened monarchical governments.

Though King Hussein could not publicly acknowledge such cooperation, it contributed to the broader Pahlavi–Hussein alignment. Students from Jordan attended Iranian universities. A limited number of  professionals worked in Jordan. Cultural delegations exchanged visits in the 1960s and 70s. These interactions strengthened people-to-people relations, though state-level cooperation remained dominant. The royal families also played a symbolic role.
