Relations between Pahlavi and King Hussein

Hussein was born in Amman, the eldest son of King Talal and Queen Zein. He received a diverse education both in Jordan and abroad, attending schools in Jerusalem, Egypt, and the United Kingdom. His education prepared him for leadership in a region characterized by political complexity. King Hussein’s reign began in 1952, during a period of political instability in Jordan and the broader Middle East. Despite his youth, he demonstrated a remarkable ability to navigate complex political landscapes, balancing relationships with Western powers, neighboring Arab states, and emerging international organizations.

He survived numerous coup attempts and political crises, consolidating his authority while maintaining the monarchy’s central role in Jordanian society. Hussein was known for his pragmatic approach to governance, combining modernization efforts with the preservation of traditional values. He led Jordan through the 1967 Six-Day War and the 1970 Black September conflict with Palestinian factions.
